Unincorporated and a census-designated place, Acton is a small town in Los Angeles County, California. Located in the Sierra Pelona Mountains, Acton is populated by 7,596 people as per the 2010 U.S. Census. It is 47 miles north of downtown Los Angeles, 20 miles northeast of the San Fernando valley and presents a western character. With some buildings dating back to the 1800's, it's easy to see the rural western feel of the town. Acton was founded in 1887 when gold miners were working in the Red Rover Mine, and was named after Acton, Massachusetts by one of the miners there.
During the late 1880's, Acton began to transition to a ranching and farming community, and opened its first hotel and saloon, the 49er, in 1889. The 49er is still around to this day offering quality service to all of its patrons. In the same shopping center is the bank that was seen in "Blood Work", a Clint Eastwood film. The town of Acton still holds events, giving it a family friendly feel, even movie nights at the park during the summer. With the mountainous ranges and the farming community, it's not hard to see why people enjoy the country feel of this calming environment.
