Known most commonly as the home of Disneyland, Anaheim is the 10th most populated city in California. It is also home to the Anaheim Angels baseball team, 2002 World Series Champions. The city was founded in 1857 by fifty German families. It was first an industrial center before developing a large tourism sector.
Disneyland Resort is the most common reason people come to Anaheim. It is also the top employer in the city. This theme park contains Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks. Downtown Disney has a House of Blues, where many concerts take place annually. Most hotels are situated around the park as well, known as Anaheim Resort. Anaheim GardenWalk can be found here, a large shopping and dining center.
Anaheim Convention Center is also frequently visited by tourists. The center is the largest on the west coast and holds events throughout the year. National Association of Music Merchants holds annual conventions at the center, attracting record numbers of attendees. The Grove of Anaheim is a concert venue home to hundreds of big shows every year. The Honda Center is the home of Anaheim's hockey team.
Sports enthusiasts find plenty to do in Anaheim. The Anaheim Ducks hockey team are 2007 Stanley Cup winners. Anaheim Angels are another top team in the MLB. The Angels Stadium is constantly frequented by fans. Metrolink subway system services the stadium and other areas of the city, making for an easy commute, unlike other cities in California.
Residents of Anaheim live in one of the safest cities in the nation. Prior to becoming an industrialized city, Anaheim was a rural community with large orange groves. City officials predict the population of Anaheim to grow rapidly with the construction of housing complexes in the area.
