About Azusa

Located in Southern California, in Los Angeles County, the city of Asuza, CA enjoys its status of being a small metro city while still enjoying the perks from its proximity to the major city of Los Angeles. With a population of around 44,000, Azusa employs its own police department and is home to several major industries.These businesses, which can be found in the Azusa, CA yellow pages or the Azusa, CA business directory, include the local unified school district. More than sixteen hundred people work for the city's school district, which includes eleven elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools. Because of its location in the southern desert region of the United States, along with its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Azusa does not have four seasons of weather, as much of the rest of the country does. Instead, the city's weather features extremely hot and humid summers, with temperatures that may climb into the upper nineties or even low one hundred degree range. Winters are milder, although the city does not see snowfall. Temperatures in the autumn and winter may fall to the low forties or fifties, which may accompany heavy rainfalls and cool ocean winds.Given this type of climate, the Azusa, CA area contains innumerable palm trees, cacti, and other tropical plants. Foliage stays green throughout the year and Azusa residents may enjoy growing gardens throughout the year. Frost and freezing incidences are rare, thus making the area ideal for growing citrus fruits and vegetables, exotic flowers, and melons.

The name of the city reflects its history. While many people joke or mistakenly believe that comedian Jack Benny coined the city after one of his jokes, the word Azusa actually may stem from the Aztec language. Indeed, this ancient tribe's language can be traced to the area and many historians believe that the name comes from the word Asuksanga. Today, the city is a mix of both Anglo and Latino culture. More than half of the city's population identifies themselves as Latino or Hispanic. While the city may be part of a major metropolitan area, it does contain observable wildlife. Coyotes often can be spotted within the city and are often fed by residents. The city urges people not to feed these animals, which are fearful of humans and can hunt their own food.
