Chula Vista's town was created by 1889, and incorporated by 1911. Just before World War II its population was about 5,000. In 1950, it had tripled to 16,000. It became one of the largest lemon growing centers in the world. Some of the events that affected Chula Vista's development was the Sweetwater Dam, and the Santa Fe Railroad to San Diego California.
