About Community & Government
Local Army and Navy surplus stores may seem a little odd at first, but they are filled with useful items as well as some entertainment driven merchandise. These retail establishments carry a wide assortment of Government Issue products such as military fatigues, dog tags, dress uniforms, flight suits, metals and patches, boots, tactical equipment, eye wear/goggles, law enforcement utensils, helmets, berets and other headgear, and memorabilia. They also sell camping gear, knives, tools, flags, self-defense stuff, lighters, flashlights, binoculars, ropes, rain gear, clothing, watches, flasks, books, training DVDs, and assorted novelty items/gifts. Survival kits are another item most local surplus stores keep in stock. These are perfect for earthquakes, fires, floods, or any natural disaster/ emergency situation. Most survival sets include small first aid kits, but it is probably a good idea to buy these separately because larger ones contain more useful items that may not be included in pocket sized versions. Army and Navy stores usually have lower prices than sporting goods stores because they operate in a manner similar to that of wholesalers. They typically purchase items in bulk from the government and work wear manufacturers such as Dickies. Military relics and other items for collectors cannot be bought in bulk, though, so they are not available at reduced rates.
