Sacramento is a place that many have heard of, but most do not know the full history behind this beautiful city.Sacramento is the capital city of the state of California, despite the fact that it is only the seventh largest city in California. The Sacramento, California yellow pages would probably tell you that the population is just under half a million. However, that is just the number of people living in the city itself. If you include the immediately surrounding areas, then the number jumps to just over two million. In the city itself, you will find the beautiful campus of Sacramento State University. Nearby you will also find the campus of the University of California, Davis. This campus is located just about 15 miles away from Sacramento. These two universities have been in this area for quite some time.
Many may wonder when exactly Sacramento became the capital of California, given the fact that there are so many larger cities that are often mistaken for the capital. The answer to that question is that Sacramento became the capital of the state of California in 1854. This was a move made by the California state legislature of the time. Previously the capital had been Monterey, when the state was under Spanish control. The move was based on the geography at the time as well as for political reasons. In other words, with the throw off of Spanish control it was important to symbolize change by moving the capital. In the present day, there are several other cities in California that would seem to make more sense as the capital. However, this mostly has to do with the fact that they get more media attention.
Despite the fact that the bigger cities may get more attention, the business opportunities in Sacramento should not be overlooked. Just take a look at a Sacramento, California business directory and you will see that there is plenty of business going on in the city. This means that it should be a prime candidate for you to move to, since finding a job is of key importance. After all, if you cannot find a job in the larger cities then how are you going to survive? In Sacramento this is not something that you have to worry about nearly as much. You should particularly look into finding a job working for the city itself since they employ so many. At any rate, you should at least come visit the historic city of Sacramento.
