San Diego is located in southern California and is home to Balboa Park, an international airport, many beaches, and more. As a former Spanish settlement in the 18th century, many roads, streets, and schools are named in the Spanish language or after famous Spanish explorers or missionaries, such as Gaspar DePortala or Junipero Serra. These are local middle and high schools as well. Some architecture, such as that of the San Diego State University, also looks Spanish. Demographics of San Diego is very mixed with all sorts of diversity, although there is a definitely a large Latino population.
Balboa Park is home to many parks and museums, which showcases the history of the city and so on. One of the parks is the world famous San Diego Zoo. The zoo is widely known for its pandas as well as its large environmental based variety of animals. In addition to the zoo is its sister park, Wild Animal Park, in which all the animals are held in larger captivity closer in habitat to their actual home. More parks, trails, gardens, and museums are available for sight seeing as well. More information can be found under San Diego, California yellow pages. Restaurants, Amusement Parks, and other places of business can be found in the San Diego, California business directory.
Beaches are open year around and are often packed in the summer for some fun in the sun. Weather in the city is warm in the late spring, summer, and early fall. While the climate gets colder in the later fall, winter, and early spring, it is nothing a simple jacket cannot solve. Snow never occurs, except in the mountains. Hail is very rare and rain is uncommon, usually occurring in the winter and spring. Thunder storms are also rare but happen occasionally. Due to the dry weather, fires tend to be common but the fire department is quick to respond. Many earthquakes have been felt recently, mostly coming from Baja, California to the south of San Diego. Overall, the weather is nice and usually does not get too hot nor too cold where light dressing is usually sufficient.
