Santa Maria, California is one of the many cities located along the central coast of the state. With a growing population, it has become one of the larger cities in the area. Competition comes from all over the world as cowboys show off horses, cattle, riding, roping, and other rodeo competitions. The city comes alive during rodeo days starting with a parade that can last for hours and has featured name bands and guest from all over. The city is also famous for the delicious strawberries grown throughout the area. They are shipped everywhere in the country and each year the city sponsors a Strawberry Festival with carnival rides and games. It includes lots of strawberries created in every dish known from crepes, ice cream, muffins, short cake, and juices. Enjoy local artist and entertainment during the festival. Once you find yourself in need of other entertainment just look around.There are beaches within 15 to 30 minutes driving time. Residents and guest can lay in the sun, surf the waters, or fish right from the shore in some locations and from the pier in others. Some of the beaches offer areas for dune buggy riding. Enjoy the sun, sand, and surf all within minutes from town. Take advantage of restaurants, resorts, and tours of local wineries or just sit back and relax in perfect year round weather. The city is located just minutes from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Watching Missiles take off and color the sky during a beautiful sunset is one of the local pass times and everyone can enjoy sky colors each morning and evening as life moves forward in style.
