About Breckenridge

Breckenridge is the county seat of Summit County, Colorado and is a home rule municipality. The town had a population of 4,540 residents as of the 2010 Census. If you look in the Breckenridge, CO Yellow Pages and the Breckenridge, CO Business Directory, you will find multiple activities and places to go, including the Breckenridge Ski Resort, one of the most popular ski resorts during the winter months. The resort provides multi-difficulty ski slopes covering 4 peaks on the Ten Mile Range of the Rocky Mountains. The summer also attracts guests with hiking, wildflowers, fly-fishing, and many more outdoor activities.

The town of Breckenridge was established in 1859 when it was formally created by General George E. Spencer. Originally, the town was named "Breckinridge" after the Vice President, John C. Breckinridge. However, after the Civil War broke out, the pro-Union citizens of the town changed the name spelling to Breckenridge, after the vice president sided with the Confederates. With all the great summer and winter activities and the multiple events throughout the year, Breckenridge is one of the top small towns in the nation.
