About Brush

Brush is a small, agricultural city in northeast Colorado, 90 miles outside of Denver. The 2000 United States government census reported a population of 5,117 and a total area of 2.4 square miles. The town's namesake is Jared L. Brush who came to Colorado as a gold digger and later served as the state's Lieutenant Governor. The town was laid out in 1882 when the Burlington Railroad line reached that far west. One of the first booming businesses in Brush was a sugar factory and later livestock would bring commerce and growth to the town.

The town of Brush has an average of 330 days of sunshine every year, making it a great spot for hunting, fishing, and camping. A glance through the Brush, Colorado yellow pages will reveal a large selection of antique stores and fine restaurants as well. Most visitors, however, come to Brush for the annual Brush Rodeo, which will celebrate its 58th anniversary next July. The event is the largest amateur rodeo in the world and draws most of Brush's yearly tourism.

The city's economy is dominated by ranching and agriculture. Brush also has a municipal airport and community college. The local high school has a football team called the Beetdiggers, who have won several state championships through the years.
