With a population of 46, 261 residents, Castle Rock Colorado has come a long way since its incorporation on May 17, 1881. Elevated above sea level at 6,202 feet, the air is clean and crisp in the town of Castle Rock.Castle Rock remains a scenic area, which is protected from winter storms by the mountains, along with protection from the heat; Colorado's Castle Rock was a perfect location for the Native Americans that sought game for food. Not much gold was located, but the rhyolite stone located in the butte near Plum Creek is the very thing Castle Rock needed to make a name for itself.Shortly thereafter, the Denver and Rio Grande Railway was spotted traveling through Castle Rock. Ranchers and the shipping of rhyolite from 3 quarries, along with dairy farmers, found the railway to be of assistance in the sales of their products.
