About Parker

Parker, Colorado, located twenty miles due south of Denver off Interstate 25 alongside Cherry Creek, was established in 1882 and named after the owner of the town's first station manager and postmaster, James S. Parker. Along with many small front range towns, Parker sprouted as a result of Colorado's gold rush years in the 1850s. The location was prime for a supply stop for horse-and-buggy transportation to Denver. This eventually turned into railroad transportation, and Parker was an important stop on the Denver and New Orleans Railroad. The town grew along with the influx of ambitious immigrants, and was formally incorporated in 1981. Today, Parker is a thriving suburb of approximately 42,000 people. The town strives to balance the incorporation of modern architecture and lifestyle while preserving the frontier feel. Community events are centered around the town square and gazebo; the town celebrates its western heritage through preservation of the original sites and architecture.

Sharing the four season climate with other front range locales, Parker allows year-round access to recreation within the town limits and elsewhere in Colorado. Within Parker, you can find paved biking and running trails that connect to the Cherry Creek regional trail system, six recreation parks and a community swimming pool with water park features. Parker also boasts a new fieldhouse, with a skating rink, rock climbing wall, and batting cages. An arboretum and equestrian center are also available. Parker is conveniently located within 75 miles of at least three ski resorts as well. Annual community celebrations include Parker days, held each June, the independence day celebration, and Christmas carriage parade. While technically a commuter town, Parker has many of the amenities of its metropolitan neighbor, but with a small town feel. Within the historical downtown area buildings, one can find such modern shopping and dining experiences, such as wine bars, salons, and pet bakeries. Without accessing the busy interstate, you can also find several clothing and jewelry boutiques, restaurants featuring international cuisine, and the standard big box stores.More information on recreation, community events, history and specific business listings for the town of Parker can be found by accessing the Parker, CO yellow pages or the Parker, CO business directory.
