About Danbury

It was 1685 when settlers first made their way into Danbury, with a total of eight families moving into the area. These settlers called the area Swampland until it was changed to Danbury by the general court. Danbury played an important part in the American Revolutionary War. The city served as a military supply depot for the Continental Army. Major General William Tryon looted and burned the city on April 26th and April 27th, 1777. This led the city to develop the motto Restituimus, or We have restored. Today the city pf Danbury is home to just over 79,743 residents, making it the seventh largest in the state of Connecticut. The city has once been named as one of the best cities in the U.S. by Forbes magazine due to its low crime rates, good schools, and prime location. Norwalk is the nearest city to Danbury.
