About Meriden

Meriden, Connecticut became a town in 1806. Like many towns in New England, Meriden takes its name from a British town. The town was dubbed Silver City because of the large number of silver cutlery and related objects produced there in the early 1800s. The town was also known for its production of guns before The Great Depression, when many businesses, including the gun factory, closed. One of the first FM radio broadcasts came from the Meriden hills. The town is a part of New Haven County and is home to almost sixty thousand residents. The oldest house in the town was built in 1711. It is currently still standing and acts as the Solomon Goffe House museum, which can be looked up in the Meriden, Ct yellow pages. The town's official flower is the daffodil, which is celebrated at the annual Daffodil Festival that takes place in Hubbard Park.

The weather in Meriden varies with the season, with unpredictable weather coming in the spring and fall months. Fall in New England is very colorful and beautiful; Meriden is no different. Snow can pose a large problem during the winter. Roads can occasionally become impassible in the winter due to severe weather or blizzards. Rain is common in the spring and it's best to pack boots and an umbrella. The temperature has been known to vary often in the span of a day, so even in summer it can be a good idea to bring a light jacket. It's always a good idea to check the weather report before planning any outdoor event in Meriden.Meriden, Ct business directory can be helpful when searching for shopping in town. The Westfield mall offers shoppers a wide variety of vendors. The town is easily accessible by Amtrak or via one of the two the state's main highways: interstate 91 and 691. Meriden is only two hours outside of New York City and Boston. The town is only a mere twenty minutes from Hartford, the state's capital. The majestic Quinnipiac River runs right through Meriden. Golfing is very popular on Hunter Golf Course, one of New England's best public golf courses.
