About Waterbury

Approximately one hour and a half from New York City, North on Interstate 95, Waterbury, CT. can be found. It is also about two hours south of the State Capital of Hartford, CT. Waterbury is a hilly old New England City. Its history is closely linked to the Catholic Church. There is a cross located about midway of the city on top of a hill, that lights up at night that symbolize the Catholic Church. Near that cross is a Catholic hospital named St. Mary's Hospital. As one may see, as you travel the streets not far from that hospital that the Catholic Church is not the only church in town. There are Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Pentecostal, and all manner of storefront churches in town.Like most cities in this country, Waterbury has a diverse make up of neighborhoods. Near the downtown area the less affluent neighborhoods are found. As one travels to the edges of the city, the more affluent neighborhoods are found. City accommodations are the standard ones as found in most urban or suburban cities. Fire and police protection is reasonably good. Having many multi-level apartment buildings and office buildings is not a hindrance to proper fire protection in the city.

Crime is not better or worse in Waterbury than in the surrounding cities of its size and population. There are several public parks, and play grounds located throughout the city. Located in the New England States, Waterbury gets hit with big snow storms during the winter, which comes early in this part of the country. In spite of that, the city does a good job at keeping the streets cleared for vehicle traffic.Due to its close proximity to New York City, Waterbury is one of the towns that has become a suburb of New York. Believe it or not, there are persons that travel from there to New York to work daily. In recent years Waterbury's economic development has improved.
