Known for its apple-orchards, world-class golf courses, fun festivals, and scrapple, Bridgeville, Delaware, is a small town brimming with character. Bridgeville, Delaware, is located on U.S. 13 approximately 30 miles south of Delaware's capital city, Dover and 26 miles north of Salisbury, Maryland. With a population nearing 1,500, Bridgeville began as a small community which developed near the Bridge Branch Waterway in the 1680's. The name Bridgeville was officially adopted in 1810, and the town was incorporated in 1877. The town logo, proudly displayed on all signs states, "If you lived here, you would be home now."
Bridgeville is also known for its three fund-raising festivals: Apple Scrapple, Punkin Chunkin, and Christmas in Bridgeville. The Apple Scrapple festival takes place the second weekend of October, and celebrates apples and scrapple. Scrapple is a traditional New England breakfast of pork scraps combined with corn meal, flour and spices, then pan-fried. From Friday to Saturday evening the town hosts local food vendors serving every kind of food imaginable. Other attractions include a tractor pull, car show, carnival, street dance and an all you can eat scrapple breakfast. The Punkin Chunkin festival takes place in November. Using air-cannons, trebuchets and catapults, teams from all over the country compete to see who can launch pumpkins the farthest. Winners are awarded prizes and bragging rights. Christmas in Bridgeville, which takes place the first Saturday in December, offers a large craft show, plenty of home-cooked food, and a visit from Santa Claus.
