About Alpharetta

Formerly known as New Prospect Camp in the town of Milton, Georgia, Alpharetta got its start in 1857. In 1932, Milton County merged with Fulton County, which is where Alpharetta is located today. Located less than twenty-five miles from Atlanta, Alpharetta has grown from a small camp to approximately fifty-four thousand residents.The climate of Alpharetta is similar to that of other Southern cities, but just a tad cooler. With an average winter temperature of forty-two degrees, and an average summer temperature of seventy-four degrees, Alpharetta is a pleasant place to visit or live.Quickly becoming a tourist destination, Alpharetta is host to many fine dining establishments. With over one hundred and fifty options ranging from Brazillian to Caribbean, Irish, and everything in between, finding good eats is easy.

Home to beautiful parks and top notch recreational facilities, Alpharetta is quickly becoming known as a sports destination. Of note for outdoor enthusiasts is Big Creek Greenway, a large concrete pathway that extends for over six miles through tree filled wetlands, and offers runners, bikers, skaters, and more a chance to enjoy nature. Popular festivals in Alpharetta, GA include Arts Streetfest and Taste of Alpharetta. The Arts Streetfest occurs in April, and contains displays from artists from all across the United States. Concerts and performance art can also be experience during Art Streetfest. Taste of Alpharetta takes place in May, and generally has over seventy thousand food lovers in attendance. This festival is free to attend, with only a small price charged to taste some of the best food around.For history buffs, The Milton Log Cabin may be of interest. Constructed during the 1934-35 school year, the cabin was built by middle school students in the Future Farmers of America Club, and is the only cabin of its kind that is still in use today. The Alpharetta Historical Society now leases the cabin, and visitors can visit the cabin to see the inside of the cabin itself, as well as items dating to its construction time period. With so much to do, the hardest part about visiting Alpharetta is deciding what to do next.
