It's a well-educated community, with 60.2% of the population holding a Bachelor's degree, according to the latest census. The per capita income is $45,494, significantly higher than the national per capita at $21,587. Sandy Springs is home to professionals seeking to live in a community providing easy access to the metro Atlanta area. Residents will find a variety of apartments and homes in which they can live. They will find many restaurants and shops where they can spend time with family and friends. One of the leaders of this movement was Eva Galambos, a long time resident that is a member of several community organizations. This dream was finally realized with a positive vote for city hood in June 2005. The city government for Sandy Springs took office later that year on December 1. Ms. Galambos, along with her fellow residents, celebrated victory for both Sandy Springs' incorporation, as well as her win as the city's first mayor.This community has several organizations that continue to strive for improvement. Residents enjoy annual festivals that allow the businesses in the area to showcase their products and services. Civic groups offer volunteer opportunities to those who wish to get involved. The chamber of commerce provides networking opportunities to local business leaders.Sandy Springs provides easy access to the metro Atlanta area. Major roadways, such as I-285, GA 400, and Highway 9, give routing options to drivers commuting into the heart of Atlanta. Those who wish to use public transportation can use MARTA to get around the city as well.Sandy Springs offers a great deal to their residents. A community that is close to downtown Atlanta, but providing a small town environment.
