About Sioux City

In the western part of the state of Iowa lies historic Sioux City. Dating back to the ancient Indian native people and the early 1800s when Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored and documented their travels in the area, there are many points of interests and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.History abounds as you visit Bruguier's Cabin and Central High School, a whimsical building reflecting the flamboyance of the boom years. Check out First Brides Grave and the Sergeant Floyd Monument in this friendly city by the Missouri River. Riverside Park and South Bottoms Memorial are both pleasant day outings, which when combined with a picnic lunch, will add to the charm of this little known gem in Iowa. Nearby riverboat gambling and excursions will engage young and old, and if you close your eyes for a moment, you will be transported back in time by the sights and sounds.

Wambdi Okicize, commonly known as War Eagle, an Isanti Indian, was a great promoter of peace, despite his name, and a memorial statue has been erected in his honor because he served as a riverboat guide and delivered critical messages for the government during the War of 1812. Surely you like to bring your family and children to experience first hand the wonder of United States history? Along with strong links to the past is Sioux City's upbeat and current nightlife, bringing major entertainment acts and performances to the area. Hip entertainers like Jackson Browne and Celtic Women, as well as Disney on Ice, Alan Jackson and many more acts come to this area on a regular basis, infusing life, youth, and vitality into the city.

Locals say that they love the quality of life here. The schools in Iowa are ranked at the top of the nation, crime statistics indicate less violent crime than in other small metropolitan cities, and neighborhoods join together in small communities with churches of all faiths, ample retail options, and cultural events to satisfy most. Many families have lived in the area for generations and are proud, hard working citizens who welcome visitors with open arms and hearty food.No one can come to Sioux City without having a loose meat sandwich. A unique combination of cooked hamburger, onion, and spices, steamed into fragrant, tasty meat that is piled high on a hamburger bun is messy and delicious fun. Also not to be missed is to hit one of the wiener houses that specialize in Conney Island style hot dogs. They are smaller and usually served three at a time under a blanket of fresh minced onions and a finely grind chili. Little known but highly treasured, Sioux City, Iowa is a worthwhile destination for all, young and old, with historical, recreational, and entertainment options that meet the expectations of even the most discerning traveler.
