Jazzercise is a popular dance-fitness regimen. Each one-hour group class features a mixture of aerobics, jazz dance, Latin-inspired dance, kickboxing, Pilates, yoga, weight training and even ballet-inspired stretching, all set to current popular music. The company has been around since 1969, when founder and current CEO Judi Sheppard Missett, then a professional dancer, came up with the idea for a new kind of dance-fitness class. The classes caught on and, in 1976, Missett's company became known as "Jazzercise". The company, based in Carlsbad, CA, expanded to other locations as demand grew and new instructors became certified to teach. Missett choreographed and videotaped routines to ensure all instructors taught Jazzercise to the same standard.
