When writing someone in Downers Grove, do not include an apostrophe. It is incorrect and everyone will know you are an outsider! All joking aside, Downers Grove is a fantastic village west of Downtown Chicago. The close proximity to the great city has really pushed the population to greater and greater heights each year. Currently the city has close to 50,000 residents. Downers Grove has a rich history dating back to the 1830s. The village was first settled in 1832 and by 1844 hosted a schoolhouse. The city began to expand as the railroad from Aurora moved through the city en route to Chicago. Today the city has a number of events sponsored by the city that bring together the large community. These include activities for major holidays, like the Lighting of the Tree Ceremony and the Halloween Happening. Downers Grove has a historic and memorable downtown area. They revamped their buildings, sidewalks, and street facilities in the downtown area. The pristine and old fashion charm returned immediately. It is not hard to see why so many have become attached to Downers Grove. It usually only takes one look at the downtown area and most fall in love.
It is a large city with that small town charm. The style of architecture and the lighting in the downtown area remind one of 1920s America, where life took on a different character and shape than it does in the bustling information age. Downers Grove has a population that loves to live and work in the community. The residents work in light industry, retail, and skilled labor positions throughout the city. The people in Downers Grove enjoy a number of activities mostly sponsored by groups or by the city itself. Downers Grove has museums, parks, high school events, and many different ethnic restaurants. On a weekend night, visitors to Downers Grove can enjoy a lively entertainment at a number of venues including restaurants, bars, and other locations. Downers Grove is a great city in the heart of the Midwest. Much of the history of this village extends from neighboring Chicago. The close proximity of this giant city has helped to further Downers Groves own interests, including bringing a large population to the small geographic area of Illinois. Now the city has a terrific downtown area, thriving economy, and a well educated citizenry that supports a number of events and community organizations. Downers Grove may be one of the premier places to live and work in Illinois.
