The town of Paletine, Illinois is a northwestern suburban city near Chicago, Illinois. It resides in Cook county and has a population of 65,479 as of the year 2000 census. It is in a wooded marshland with several streams that flow around the city. The town has a total area of 13.1 square miles. With many streams nearby floods are known to occur often.The city of Paletine, Illinois was founded in the year 1866. Palatine was originally founded by Joel Wood, who surveyed and laid out the village. One of the first streets built in the downtown area is named after Wood. The first suburban subdivision to be built in Paletine was Palanois Park. It was built shortly after World War II had ended. Since the 1970s the city has experienced rapid growth.Paletine has been in the process of revitalizing its downtown area since 1999. New developments in this process include a new passenger train station, a nearby parking garage, and several new condominiums. New rowhomes and commercial buildings have been built. The Paletine Park District is very large and serves many of the surrounding communities. It includes four swimming pools and has two recreational centers. Planning is currently underway for a third rec center at Falcon Park. The Salt Creek Rural Park District provides recreation and leisure services to the town of Paletine. Non-residents of the area can utilize these services on a fee basis.The banking industry is very large in Paletine, Illinois. The food equipment manufacturing business has a base here.
