The city of Alexandria is located in the Rapides Parish. This city is very populated. The Red River runs along the city of Alexandria. There are a lot of cultural events that take place in Alexandria. Mardi Gras is one of those events. Mardi Gras is considered a holiday in these states. The Mardi Gras celebration consists of a parade that takes place every year. The parade is always held on the Sunday before the actual celebration. There is also a parade that the children can be a part of on the Saturday before the actual Mardi Gras celebration. There is another parade that takes place as well. This parade happens on Fat Tuesday. The name of this parade is Krewe of Provine Parade. Another cultural thing that Alexandria participates in is called the Cenlabration. This celebration takes place in Central Louisiana. That is where the name came from. It was shortened to just Cenlabration. This event displays the local heritage as well as the different cultures that are evolving.
There are many different types of music that are played in this festival. Some of the different genres include jazz, Cajun and zydeco, blues, as well as some country music. Some other things that you will find in the Cenlabration are the different local people who have some sort of way of getting the town to listen, whether it is with a booth or them selling things. There are some very notable people who once resided in the city of Alexandria, LA. One of the residents is a Major League Baseball player by the name of Jay Aldrich. Another Major League Baseball play was once a resident in this area, he name is Warren Morris. There is another MLB player that is from this city. His name is Juan Pierre. There is also an NFL player from here. He is Bill Schroll. The world's oldest veteran from World War II is also from this area. His name is William F. Cotton. There are some things for the people who are into the outdoor life. One of the places that you can go to is Alexandria Zoological Park. Other places include Cotile Lake Recreation Area, Indian Creek Lake, and Recreation Area, as well as Kisatchie National Forest.
