About Kenner

Kenner, LA is a very special part of New Orleans. Anyone that has visited the area knows the people there have a unique dialect. What they do not know is that this special dialect comes in many flavors. The folks that live in Kenner have their own special flavor of the New Orleans dialect. Everyone around the city may pronounce the word Kenner as Ken-na, but the people that actually live in Kenner say Kenn-nah. Other words in Kenner are also pronounced in a unique way. Nevertheless, all of the local dialects around the city are unmistakably from Nawlins. This is just one characteristic that makes the area so special.Kenner was once a very small outpost located around 20 miles outside downtown New Orleans. It did not really begin to grow until Moisant International airport was built along the town's western border. The northern border is the Mississippi river, but the southern border is Lake Pontchatrain. Despite being surrounded by water Kenner, LA did not drastically flood during hurricane Katrina. This is because Kenner is located on some relatively high ground and is perfect for an airport location.

The original name was changed to Louis Armstrong International in honor of the now infamous jazz singer that was born in New Orleans. Even though Kenner is small by comparison, there are many things to do there.First, there is a 16 block historical area located by the river. This is called Rivertown and happens to play host for many educational facilities and entertainment outlets. A visiting family can find cultural attractions, which includes the Cannes Brulees Native American Museum, a Repertory Theater, and new library. Next, there are hundreds of different retail shops and restaurants located at Rivertown. In addition, The New Orleans area is known for the food that it servers. Kenner, LA is not different. Some of the very best local dishes are genuine family recipes that have been served in the area for many dozens of years.Kenner, LA also plays host to the area's annual Festa Italiana, which is now held at Rivertown every year. This is a local celebration featuring indigenous Italian recipes, wonderful live jazz music, and a special amusement area just for the kids. Admission also includes access to the popular children's museum located within the facility. All of this is what makes Kenner, LA a very special part of the city of New Orleans.
