About Lake Charles

Surrounded with lovely natural habitats, fresh water marshes, beautiful rivers, and welcoming sunsets over the waters, white sandy beaches, is the city of Lake Charles, Louisiana. As the Lake Charles, LA yellow pages and the Lake Charles, LA business directory will guide you, there is a nice choice of things to do, such as dining, entertainment, shopping, and visits to historical places, including the Charpentier Historical District, the Historical Halls, and Arts Centers. Lake Charles is known for being able to preserve the feeling of a smaller town and is known for its hospitality.Lake Charles is called the capital of the pine lands because of the big boom it had in lumber in the 1800s that affected its city's architecture. Many experienced lumbermen arrived here during that time who brought back the Victorian taste of building that was popular at the time in other parts of the United States. Although the lumber yards are no longer in Lake Charles, left behind are still the gorgeous homes in the Charpentier Historic District that are quite impressive to see for any visitor or resident.

Lake Charles is the fifth biggest city in Louisiana and is located on Lake Charles, Prien Lake and as well the Calcasieu River. It sits inside a major industrial and education area in the southern part of the state. The population in Lake Charles as of 2010 was about 72,000 people. The city is growing and prospering mostly due to the petrochemical refineries, the tourism that comes into the city, gaming. and due to the it being the location of the McNeese State University.
