Amherst, which is pronounced without the 'h', is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts. The town, located in the Connecticut River Valley, has a population of 37,819 as of the 2010 Census. Amherst College, Hampshire College, and University of Massachusetts Amherst are the three located in Amherst, making up the Five Colleges which are liberal arts colleges.
