Arlington began as a village in 1635 and was called Menotomy, which meant swift running water and was settled by colonists. In 1867, the name changed in honor of soldiers who were buried in the Arlington National Cemetery to Arlington. A stream called Mill Brook runs through the town and was a large part of Arlington's economy. The first mill was built there by Captain Cooke and after this time, seven more were built after that. The famous Midnight Ride that was made by Paul Revere was in the city of Arlington, and many battles were fought here. In 1688, the first school was constructed and today has been standing for over 100 years. In 1837, the first library was opened. Another interesting fact about Arlington that most do not know is that Uncle Sam was born here!The climate in Arlington varies with the seasons. July tends to be the warmest month of the year and the highest temperature was in 1975 at 105 degrees. January is the coldest month of the year and the low was -21 degrees in 1961. The most precipitation occurs in the month of November.
