The city of Boston has a rich history with deep roots going back to the thirteen original colonies. It has long been a center of art, culture, and higher learning. In the early 1600s, the Pilgrims landed nearby in what is now Cape Cod. Boston Common, The Freedom Trail, Paul Revere, The USS Constitution, and The Boston Tea Party; these are all names associated with the city of Boston which had a profound effect in the formation of the United States and the Revolutionary War of Independence. The city government has done a great job of preserving these historic sites, which are national treasures.
The city is the home of Boston College, Northeastern University, The University of Boston, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology among others. Making music has a long history here, with The Berklee College of Music, The Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Conservatory of Music, and The Boston Pops. An efficient and reasonably priced public transportation system makes it easy to get around without a car. The subway stops at the airport and takes people to Boston Harbor and anywhere downtown in about ten minutes. The end of one runway can be seen from Boston Harbor, that is how close the airport is. At the harbor it's an easy connection to the New England Ferry System, which operates ferries to Cape Cod, Salem, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. There is a small ferry that runs across the harbor to the site where the USS Constitution is berthed. Better known as Old Ironsides, the majestic ship and adjacent maritime museum are open for visitors all year. There are Duck Boat tours which run along the Charles river and Back Bay areas. This is an amphibian vehicle at home on both land and water. Boston is a fascinating city which has successfully blended the old and new.
