About Lynn

Nestled on the northern east coast of North America is Lynn in Essex County, Massachusetts. Early settlers were mainly farmers and the fishing industry sprang up. Incorporated into a city in 1850, Lynn began another industry that manufactured footwear and in 1892 General Electric company formed in Lynn. In the city's seal is a colonial boot that symbolizes Lynn's manufacturing city. With temperature averages in January at 20 degrees and in August 70 degrees, it is pleasantly cool. In July 75 degrees is about the norm. Today there are over 90,000 people living in Lynn to welcome you. The Lynn Museum and Historical Society is the home of Marshmallow Fluff Festival in Union Square in September, which has cooking contests and family fun. Marshmallow fluff history began in the early 1900s with Mr. Archibald Query to what Mr. H. Allen Durkee and Mr. Fred L. Mower have built today. Recreational parks High Rock Park, playground parks Lynn Woods Playground, and boat ramps at Harbor Landing are available for you and your family at Lynn. There is also the Little Gallery Under the Stars with poetry and films to Lynn Arts Inc. Fall Fest On the Waterfront in September. In April and May there is Harvard Arts First Festival, Cambridge River Festival, with family fun and festivities. May also is the Mayfair with lots of entertainment and fun for the whole family. In June there is a Dragon Boat Festival with their Asian flair of foods and races. High Rock Park Tower Observatory welcomes visitors to view the universe. Cuisine at Lynn ranges from Porthole Restaurant with their world class seafood, Charlie Chan Restaurant featuring Chinese cuisine, Brothers Deli, Old Tyme Italian Cuisine, Pamino's Pizza, Superior Roast Beef, and Seafood Restaurants or BBQs to your old stand byes for your family to dine at. There are many more things to do at Lynn. The Mary Eddy Baker Historical House as well as the Grand Army of the Republic Museum house history from the Revolutionary to Korean War. Lynn's community is worth visiting for their National Trust for Historic Preservation to restorations of historic sites at Lynn, or New England Explorer for fishing and boating or hiking at Ocean Walks at Lynn.
