More on Schools

As you examine local school information, make sure you ask your child what interests them. Not all local schools have music, art, drama, band, sports, foreign language or other extra-curricular activities. Find out what is and isnt offered. Websites or a quick phone call can answer these questions. Once youve identified several schools that you are interested in, you should visit them. Arrange a tour with the principal, attend a performance or ask to visit a classroom for a day. Ask to see the library. Ask about the use of computers and what kind of training is offered for computers and other technology. Homework offer differs from school to school. Ask what homework is expected from students, is homework graded, and whether you are expected to have a computer at home. Discipline policies are generally the same for all local schools, but some schools have extra rules. Ask for a copy of its parent handbook. You can ask about teacher training, number of new teachers, and any state awards that the school has won. Everything that you learn in advance can help your child in school. Local schools strive every day to serve the children that walk through their doors. But only you can pick the one that best fits your children.
