About Worcester

This town has a stick-to-it mentality that is not commonly seen. First settled in 1673 by the English, it burned to the ground two years later and the settlers were either killed or driven out. Not ten years after that Worcester was settled for a second time. This great attempt at resettlement met with routs and was abandoned in 1702. Jonas Rice finally made a settlement of good quality and even better defenses. This third try at settling was permanent. The history of Worcester, Massachusetts is rife with first times. The very first public reading of the Declaration of Independence was in front of the Worcester City Hall by Isaiah Thomas.

Years later, Esther Howland designed and produced the very first American Valentine's Day card in 1847. Worcester has been long standing with business opportunities for women.
