About Paralegal Services

If you need legal services, but do not want to spend a lot of money for legal document preparation, the next best thing you can do is look into local paralegal services. These days, every city or town should have local paralegal services for clients seeking their services. Now, just like an attorney, a paralegal has to be trained and certified. Paralegals can either obtain a two year or four year paralegal degree and certification. Paralegal students can attend a two year or four year college where they take courses in tort law, contract law, business law, civil procedure law, case law and various disciplines within the legal field. Paralegals go my various names to. They can be referred to as a legal assistant, legal secretary or simply a paralegal. Once a paralegal student has completed their degree, they can decide to work for a private or corporate company, government agency, and small or large law firm or be self-employed. Without local paralegal services, a lot of people would not know where else to turn to for help in filling out legal documents for their particular case; much less know how and where to file legal documents once complete. Even though paralegals have gone through paralegal training through a two year or four year college, and know the law to some extent, they are not allowed to give legal advice. If ever a client asks for legal advice, a paralegal working with local paralegal services must refer their client to an attorney.

More on Paralegal Services

If a paralegal works for local paralegal services in their city or town, they will already know their ethical duties to uphold and work by in order to help their clients. Being a paralegal is more or less like a legal liaison, or go between, for an attorney. Some clients, private clients that is, will not always require a lot of legwork to me done. Other times, various clients might need their local paralegal services to do a lot of legal research to complete the job or locate and interview witnesses for their case. At other times, local paralegal services will have to attend depositions and attend court hearings. Local paralegal services are something which should not be overlooked. Paralegals will not go into business for themselves or with local paralegal services type businesses, unless they have been trained to research case law and fill out the proper legal documents for a wide variety of cases. The legal documents local paralegal services will most likely offer their clients are researching for and writing up pleadings, summaries, summary judgments, motions, correspondence letters, child custody cases, bankruptcies, wills, trusts and contracts of any kind. It is important anyone who hires a paralegal check them out first through the National Association of Legal Assistants. Every paralegal working for local paralegal services will have their own certification number in their office and on file with the National Association of Legal Assistants. This protects the paralegal and client as well. More likely than not, paralegals will have their degree displayed on their office wall or somewhere visible to their prospective clients.
