Flint is located inside the state of Michigan and lies on the Flint River, a bit north of Detroit. What most will remember about Flint is that Flint was the city that once was known for its thriving automobile industry and this is where the downfall of the same industry began. Today, there is a film out called Roger and Me, which was filmed in Flint and tells the story of the GM plant that was closed down.The Ojibwa tribe settled in Flint in the 19th century and today, there are many burial mounds and other items that the Ojibwa tribe left behind that proves their presence. A trading post was founded in 1819 in the city of Flint by Jacob Smith. Later, Flint became much more known for its lumber industry and they were known for making the wooden carriages that were ridden in years ago. After this, the carriages pulled by horses came to be and this began what is now known as the automobile industry.
Many of today's large car dealers started their business in Flint. The city was also known for opening plants that manufactured war machinery and war tanks during the World War. There are auditoriums and libraries in Flint that are nice to visit and see. Flint is a city that hosts an annual Flint Jazz Festival and a Storytellers Festival yearly. They also have a Car show that is annually hosted.The highly strong and deadly tornado hit the city of Flint in 1953, which injured about 1000 people and killed 115 people.
