Lansing is the capital of Michigan. The city is located 80 miles northwest of Detroit. The city has a total population of just over 110,000 residents, making it the fifth largest city in Michigan. The area now known as Lansing was first discovered in 1790 by explorer Hugh Henward, who was sailing the Grand River. It was nothing more than a forest at this time, with no roads or the plans for any until many decades had passed. In 1825, it remained that way until Lansing became a town in 1825.
