Not just the birthplace of Elvis Presley, this town has a rich history, amazing sights, and a bountiful table set with colorful and delightful food. First named Gum Pond before the Civil War, Tupelo, Mississippi hosts a Gumtree art festival for the black gum trees that the town was originally named for. Historically, the Civil War left a mark on the city. The Battle of Tupelo was fought for control over the railroad the supplied the Union army. Most prominent in the historical tour of Tupelo, the Natchez Trace connected the town to the world. Quietly snuggled north of Columbus, Tupelo is roughly two hours away from Memphis, Tennessee.
