Missoula,Montana was founded in 1866 and has a long history and so many recreational facilities. Missoula is located in a deep valley in the western part of Montana and has a population of 64,081 people (According to the 2006 US Census Bureau's estimate). Missoula is the largest media market in the United States. Missoula is also the home of the first woman elected to US Congress. It is also the home of The University of Montana. Much of Missoula's transportation is established by the Mountain Line, a public transportation system. others in the community ride bikes and walk to their destination on a daily basis.
Missoula has a very hot and dry summer climate and a cold and moderated snowy climate in the winters. Because of it's valley location, it's shorelines are considered, nearby mountains. Missoula's history is rich as well. The Missoula Community Hospital, began with two brothers who were prominent in the early history of Western Montana medicine. the facility stands as a monument to hundreds. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, became known when Dr. Charles Thornton came west to begin practice in 1905. In 1805, the Indian's came in contact with whites on the Lewis and Clark expedition which passed through the Missoula valley. American Indians were the first inhabitants of Missoula.
Missoula is also known for its fine arts like the International Wildlife Film Festival, the largest in the world. the festival is held in the Wilma Theater. The Missoula Art Museum was founded in 1975 and offers free admission, classes and tours. This is a lovely place to take the family. The city is also mentioned in novels such as, "A River Runs Through It." Missoula also attracts thousands of biking travelers due to the Adventure Cycling Association. This is the largest cycling association in the world. Travelers who stop at this location come to be photographed, get directions and free ice cream. Local attractions include Rattlesnake Wilderness, which serves as a wildlife habitat. It is located near the airport and is popular with tourists.
