About Atlantic City

Taking a trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey, the home of gambling, the best shopping centers, and beautiful sandy beaches is definitely an eye opening vacation. Most people recognize Atlantic City because it is famous for its many casinos, holding second place to Las Vegas. The first casino was built in 1929 but wasn't recognized or legalized until 1978. Atlantic City has a long history, and there are many who made it the beautiful city it is today. The first settlers to enjoy Abescon Island where Atlantic city lies were Indians. The city is full of elegant restaurants, lovely hotels, and very convenient transportation. The only problem was that the business groups residing in this city had a problem with the sand that seemed to be everywhere you went. In 1870, Alexander Bordman, conductor on the Atlantic City railroad was convinced to come up with a way to keep the sand out of businesses, hotels, and railcars. This led to the beginning of the famous boardwalk, which was a wooden foot walk built from the beach all the way into town. Even though this boardwalk was improved during the 1880s, there was a terrible hurricane that hit the island later in the years, which destroyed the boardwalk leaving half the island under 6 feet of water. The new improved boardwalk of today is now 60 feet wide and 6 miles long. When visitors travel to this island, they have the option of checking out some of its famous restaurants, hotels, and shops that are located on one side of the board, while the amusement piers sit conveniently on the other.

From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, many people considered Atlantic City to be the best vacationing spot ever. Some years after that theatrical productions made its way to the city, giving into a new world of entertainment. Since then, officials have invested a lot of money into this city, so that they can provide a variety of attractions for the future. This investment is considered to make the city successful in the future.
