Wayne, New Jersey, is one of the state's many townships. It is located in Passaic County. It is less than 15 miles from New York City. Wayne was formed as a township in 1847 and incorporated in 1898.As of 2009, the demographics of the township consists of 54,069 inhabitants, 90 % Whites, 1.7 % African Americans; 0.1 Native Americans, 5.7 Asians; 0.02% Pacific Islanders as well as 1.2% of other races.The average high temperature for this time of the year is the early 60s, the lowest 40. In the summer months, it goes up into the 80s and lowers into the 60s in the evening hours. In fact, Wayne is considered to have a humid subtropic climate.Wayne has many public schools, ranging from pre-Kindergarten through the 12th grades. Colleges are Passaic County Technical Institute, William Paterson University, and private schools consists of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Academy Catholic School, and De Paul Catholic School.

Wayne is also home to various major corporations, among them being Toys R US corporate headquarters as well as Valley National Bank.
