Did you even know that their was a Henderson, Nevada? Chances are if you don't live in Henderson,NV or Las Vegas,NV then you don't even know what Henderson is really about. The City of Henderson is often overlooked, simply because Las Vegas is its neighboring city. But The people that live there know differently. Henderson is a nice old family town. There are new parts of it, but most of Henderson is old and has been their for years. They are neighborhoods of people that have been living there since the city really grew. Just take a look in the Henderson ,NV yellow pages and Henderson ,NV business directory to see how great the businesses are there. Most are great with outstanding customer service. Also as your driving up through the main city road, admire the old, but still intact and open casinos. A lot of these places are popular for their cheap, delicious food. Just go down to have breakfast before 10 and spend a whole $15 for your entire family
Henderson has been called the gateway to Lake Mead. Lake Mead is about 30 minutes away from Henderson and is a great place to go during the summer. It was formed in 1936 as the Hoover Dam was built; without the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead wouldn't be there. Sadly over the years the water level of Lake Mead has drastically dropped to water level not seen since 1937, due to a drought; yet it still remains somewhat popular. The name Henderson came from the Senator Charles B. Henderson, and the city became famous during the Second World War as they were supplying magnesium to the country for war. Henderson was officially a city on April 16, 1953. Then Dr. Jim French was elected as the city's first mayor on May 23, 1953. During that time, Henderson only had a population of 7,410. Right now, Henderson is the second largest city in Nevada with a population of 260,161. The Henderson, Nevada climate is hot during summer when the temperatures can get up to even 118 and cold during winter when temperatures can be in the 30s and there is even snow at times! In 2009, there was the first snow day for schoolers. The best time is during spring; it is very nice outside and usually 80 degrees. The hottest month of the year is July when the temperature is usually 105 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
