About Truck Driving Schools
Whether one is considering a career in local or over-the-road truck driving, they will likely need a commercial drivers license to work as a driver. Local Truck Driving Schools can train people to drive a class A or class B truck and prepare one for a career in the always in demand field of commercial truck driving. Also, Local Truck Driving Schools work in conjunction with some trucking companies, which may pay for the cost of training if the driver stays with them for a predetermined period of time. There are many different skills that a student will need to learn to drive a truck. Local Truck Driving Schools will train a student in how to back up a truck, shift a standard transmission, read the various gauges on the instrument panel, and do a pre-trip inspection. They will also train the student in how to maintain their logbook of hours within the requirements of the Department of Transportation. In addition, Local Truck Driving Schools prepare students for the written exams that they will need for their commercial license and any endorsements they seek. In order to learn the driving skills of a commercial driver, Local Truck Driving Schools will place a student with an instructor, who will take them out in a truck in order to learn to properly shift a standard transmission of a truck and get used to pulling a trailer, which may be up to 53 feet in length. The student will also be coached in what to watch for on their instrument panel, including oil pressure readings, water temperature readings, air pressure ranges, and tachometer readings while shifting. Students will also learn to back up on a backing range. For this, they will practice backing in a straight line while maintaining an even distance from what they are backing alongside of. They will also back from a 90 degree angle into a simulated dock.
