More on Shopping Centers - Malls

Traditionally, local shopping centers & malls have focused only on housing retail shops. But those build more recently have sought to incorporate other elements to meet the social interests of consumers. Now, almost every mall has a movie cinema as a tenant. This is a form of cross-marketing; draw customers to the local shopping centers & malls to shop, and they may stay for a movie. It works the other way, as well. These days, virtually all malls also provide a food court, where one can find a multitude of food choices from the major restaurant chains, as well as local shops. The goal is to keep the consumer in local shopping centers & malls by providing food, so that they don’t leave to get a meal. Finally, local shopping centers & malls open their doors early for those who want to exercise. So-called mall walkers are often seen walking laps around the mall. Local shopping centers & malls are thriving due to their creative use of space and by marketing themselves as more than just a place to purchase goods.
