About Akron

Akron, OH located in the Great Lakes region and roughly 39 miles south of Lake Erie near the Little Cuyahoga River has a population of 199,110 according to the 2010 census. Akron co-founded by Paul Williams who arrived there in 1811. During the 1910-1920 industries came to Akron and provided many jobs in the lamp, toy, marble, cereal, tire, and rubber industries. Thus Akron's nickname became The Rubber Capital of the World. To receive such awards Akron keeps up with its large population and tourists with families. Families can visit the Akron Art Museum for Kids, Akron Skate Park, the Akron Zoo, Children's Ballet Theatre, Kids Fun Run, Mud Golf Course, the Geauga Lake Family Amusement Park, and National Inventor's Hall of Fame. Any of these attractions will make a perfect couple of days for the family filled with exercise and educational experiences. There is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame and home to the Cleveland Brown and Indians perfect for the guys or the die-hard sports and music fans. Having the lake and river nearby makes the conditions excellent for hunting, fishing, and boating during the summer and fall months.
