The city of Toledo, Ohio, is one with a particularly unique history. The geographic location of the city, in the northwestern region of the state, on the west end of Lake Erie, at the west bank of the Maumee River, and directly on the border with Michigan, once made the City of Toledo the subject of a mostly forgotten war. Originally founded in 1833 and incorporated under Monroe County, Michigan, the City of Toledo was reborn as a municipality under what is today Lucas County, Ohio at the end of the Toledo War. The Toledo War was a relatively short war fought between the State of Michigan and the State of Ohio over which state would control Toledo, and the mouth of the Maumee River, a major point of trade in the region.

Today, the war with Michigan is over, Toledo belongs to Ohio, and the city has developed into a very popular tourist destination with its wide array of family friendly activities.
