About Albany

Albany, Oregon sits in the Northwest corner of Oregon. The city has a population of around 50,000 at the time of the 2010 census. The census reinforced that this once small city has been growing at a rapid rate. Albany enjoys a few festivals throughout the year and attracts many to this historic city through an expansive downtown retail renovation project and through the hard work of the community. Albany has roots dating back to 1848 when the city was first founded by settlers. Since that time the population has largely grown due to light industry and agricultural jobs. Albany does have the tagline of rare metals capital of the world. This is due to the large scale production of zirconium, hafnium, and titanium in the area. The industry has attracted several large scale companies that specialize in refining these rare metals. In addition to metals, the agricultural aspects of the economy have been thriving for many decades. For more information on Albany's industry and businesses, be sure to check out the Albany, Oregon Business Directory.

The loss of the timber industry in and around Albany has caused the city and its citizens to branch out to find new ways to maintain the economy. There are world class farms, grass seed distributors, corn, mints, strawberries, and hazelnut distributors. In recent years, the city has become known as the Grass Seed Capital of the World. Albany is a culturally diverse community that offers several annual events to its population. Albany residents enjoy the Northwest Art and Air Festival every year. The event is a celebration of aeronautics and artistic endeavors. Each year the festival grows and grows. In the past few years, it has seen as many as 40,000 guests. Artists can showcase their works, including wood, metal, and paint creations. There are also live musical performances throughout the festival. The city also hosts the River Rhythms, Mondays at Monteith, a Veteran's Day Parade, and a Wine Walk. Many other events take place and come and go with the seasons. Albany offers two high class golf courses, over 30 distinct and beautiful public parks, a variety of museums and memorial houses, and unique as well as tasteful dining establishments. For those traveling to Albany or relocating, the medium sized city has the charm of a smaller community with the cultural benefits of a much larger city.
