About Kaiser Permanente Health Care
One of the best-known medical programs throughout the nation is the Kaiser Permanente Health Care. This program began in 1933 with a small hospital in Desert Center, California. A large construction contractor named Kaiser and other contractors formed an Industrial Indemnity Insurance company to handle their workers' compensation claims. The Kaiser Permanente Health Plan began in Oakland, California on June l, 1942 for the contractor's employees and in 1944, it was opened to the public. Shortly afterward, the plan was expanded to cover California, Oregon and Washington with a Northern and Southern foundation. The fiftieth anniversary of the program occurred in 1995.
