Tigard, Oregon is a small city located near Portland ,Oregon. It is located in Washington County, and has a history of more than 100 years. City population was 41,223 in the 2000 census. Estimated population was 47,460 by 2009. Current census count is still unavailable.Initially settled in early 1850s, Tigard was known as East Butte. Several families settled there, including the prominent Tigard family. Between 1852 and 1886, a school, general store and meeting hall were built. Renamed Tigardville in 1886, the post office established an office in the general store.Another school, a church, and a black smithy were established in the next decade.A large migration of German settlers stimulated growth at this time.
Between 1907 and 1910, rapid commercial growth occurred. In 1910, the arrival of the Oregon electric railway brought rail service and electricity to Tigard. Tigard's name had been changed in 1907, to distinguish it from neighboring towns.Tigard continued to grow over the years, leading to its incorporation in 1961.Located on the west side of the Willamette Valley, Tigard has a moderate climate. Summer temperatures range between 65 and 90 degrees, with winter being cooler. August is typically the warmest month, with temperatures averaging 80 degrees. January is the coldest, average temp is 39 degrees.It does get a lot of rain, but snow only very rarely. Annual rainfall is almost 40 inches, with December being the wettest month.According to the Aurora weather station, located in Tigard, over the last century the high/low was 90/57, with the mean temperature 68.2 degrees.

Being a bedroom community for Portland, Tigard offers a wide array of retail, in malls, strip centers, and stand alone buildings. It is near the OHSU medical center, and has a Legacy Medical Center located within it. Surrounded by farms, Tigard has a Farmer's market, which runs from May until October. Two transit hubs connect residents to Portland METRO, with buses and Max rail serving all Portland and suburbs.Overall, Tigard is a beautiful place to live and work.
