About Outlet Malls
Local shopping centers & malls are found in every major community throughout the country. It is not uncommon to find them grouped together in a citys major commerce area. Local shopping centers & malls come in a variety of formats. Rows of stores called strip malls have risen greatly in popularity and often line the main thoroughfares of business districts. These centers often attract a major shoe or clothing store to be the centerpiece. These stores are known as anchor stores, and are found in local shopping centers and malls of all kinds. In malls, anchor stores will usually be a large department store that covers the entire range of goods found in retail stores. In fact, most major local shopping centers & malls will be anchored by three to five of these major department stores, usually placing them at the corners of the mall. These major department stores can usually be accessed directly from the parking lot, whereas smaller stores within the local shopping centers & malls can be entered only from inside the mall. Strip malls found in local shopping centers & malls provide great convenience to shoppers. Each store faces the parking lot and has its own entrance. Shoppers are able to get in and out easily, with a much shorter walk to the store than one might find at a major mall. All local shopping centers & malls attempt to attract a wide variety of stores to their facilities. Other than major department or clothing stores, most feature entertainment stores that sell music and videos. Sporting goods stores are another hallmark of local shopping centers & malls. Major book sellers are now commonplace in these centers, as are large toy stores. Service-oriented stores have been finding a home in local shopping centers & malls for some time. One can find banks, eyeglass and contact lens providers, hair and nail salons, and even pet care providers.
