About Lancaster

Lancaster, Pennsylvania is the oldest inland city in the United States. The city's history stretches back before the independence of the colonies. In the early days of Lancaster, the city was the capital of the state, from 1799 to 1812. The Continental Congress had to flee to Lancaster when the British took hold of Philadelphia. These tidbits of early American history make Lancaster a unique and enjoyable city today. Not much of the early history remains intact within the city, but much of the history peeks out at you from unexpected places. Today the city is home to 59,322, with almost nine times that amount of people in the metropolitan area surrounding the city.

Lancaster has the Park City Center, which attracts hundreds of thousands of shoppers each year. It's the largest enclosed mall in the area and houses more than 150 stores. Lancaster also has unique and diverse restaurants and local shops throughout the city. A person could walk down the major roadway and come upon an antique shop next to a baseball card shop. Lancaster has many businesses that have survived for quite a long time. Many have been in the area for generations and continue to serve as family establishments. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania Yellow Pages can connect you with the hard to find businesses and restaurants in the area. The listings show the most up-to-date contact information and of course provide a recent address.

Lancaster has been around a long time and as such has had to recreate their economy in a number of different ways. Today the main focus seems to be on boutique shops, restaurants, bars, and other small venues throughout the renovated downtown area. This influx of new shops has caused a great rise in the economy in the area and is showing promise for the struggling downtown area. Lancaster also has the longest running Farmer's Market located in their Central Market in downtown. The market opened in 1889 and has been going strong ever since.
