A nickname of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is the City of Bridges also known as Steel City, USA. The City is located in the County of Allegheny in Pennsylvania. The City has a great historical background. It was founded in September 14, 1758, by George Washington and was incorporated on April 22, 1794. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the seat of Allegheny County. Pittsburgh has a population of 332,583 people and is being projected to lose population for many economic reasons. Currently, Pittsburgh is second in population to any other city in Pennsylvania. The City of Pittsburgh is shaped like a triangle with the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River forming two of the angles sides. Since the City was fortified from the time of the Revolutionary War by George Washington himself, it has developed deep roots into fortifications and the forging of steel. The City is a maize of bridges and old decrepit steel manufacturing plants.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is currently trying to change its financial sector from steel which is no longer profitable for them to manufacture and working on developing innovative methods of health care and education including robotics. However, Pittsburgh's manufacturing historical past is still clinging and plants are being built to handle oil and natural gas companies and refineries. Old, decrepit steel sites are being torn down and new malls and offices are being put in especially near the waterfronts. Today, Pittsburgh is trying to stay financially afloat. The City is adding City Jobs even though its financial sector that pays taxes is being eroded. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the past two decades has lost its manufacturing tax paying base. However, it has the PNC bank headquartered in Pittsburgh. The PNC bank is the fifth largest bank in the country. Speculation is that the PNC bank is being Federally controlled and rumors are that it could be on the brink of bankruptcy.
The loss of its financial manufacturing base is probably why Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is losing population. The encroachment of Federal Charity Works to encourage minorities to take over the City government and few remaining financial sectors is probably another reason why the population of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is waning. Visitors to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, can expect to be confused by one way streets that do not connect to opposite direction streets for miles. The City of Pittsburgh was built as a fortification against attack and the guard mentality seems to be strong in Pittsburgh which is not a happy place to live in.
