Denton, Texas is located in the northeastern portion of the state. According to a 2008 estimate, the population was 119,454. Today the city is considered one of the best places in America to live. The city has academic institutions, numerous musical events, and great services for families living in the community. The city was incorporated in 1866 and settled some nine years earlier. Denton covers a large 62.3 square miles of land. It's located over forty miles south of Dallas and is almost as close to the Oklahoma border. Denton has a subtropical humid climate. Throughout much of the year, the temperatures are hot. The winters rarely see temperate near freezing. The mild winters and hot weather make for a good combination for the residents who live and work in Denton. The city has two universities with campuses, the University of North Texas and the Texas Woman's University. More than 45,000 students make up the student body of the two campuses combined.
